Trails & outdoor recreation
TRAIL DESIGN &
CONSTRUCTION.
Purpose-built trails shaped around your land and the intended experience your project needs to create.
Designed from THE GROUND UP
A GOOD TRAIL BELONGS WHERE IT IS BUILT.
Trail construction starts long before the machine enters the woods. The alignment must respect the terrain, drainage, soils, desired difficulty, user flow, future maintenance and the characteristics of the property.
We combine field-based design, practical construction experience and compact equipment to create trails that feel intentional. The objective is a sustainable trail that serves its users while preserving the natural qualities that made your setting valuable in the first place.
Trail-building capability
FROM FIRST WALK TO FINISHED TREAD.
Shoreline can support a complete trail project or a defined construction phase.
01
ROUTE PLANNING & FIELD LAYOUT
Assess terrain, grades, drainage, control points, destinations and user experience before committing the alignment to construction.
02
MACHINE-BUILT TRAIL
Bench cutting, shaping, material movement and mechanical compaction using compact equipment suited to sensitive and difficult-access properties.
03
DRAINAGE & SUSTAINABILITY
Design and build rolling grades, outslope, crossings and water-management details into the trail rather than treating drainage as an afterthought.
04
FINISHING & REMEDIATION
Complete finishing, tread refinement and compaction, site restoration and repairs to trails affected by erosion, poor drainage or changing use.
Different users. Different answers.
PURPOSE BUILT TRAILS
A private walking trail, an accessible tourism trail and a destination mountain-bike network should not be designed or constructed as versions of the same thing.
- Private property and accommodation trail networks
- Cross-country and flow-oriented mountain-bike trails
- Walking and multi-use routes
- Accessibility-focused trail connections
- Tourism, municipal and community recreation projects
- Reroutes, repairs and phased trail expansion
Experience on the ground
PLANNING, SHAPING AND PROBLEM-SOLVING.
Experience includes destination trail systems, community riding facilities, private trail networks and technically constrained reroutes across Atlantic Canada.
CAPE SMOKEY
Approximately 3.5 km of cross-country trail construction designed and built in 2024 on steep Cape Breton terrain.
KEPPOCH & RIVERSIDE
Pump track, flow trails and jumps. Worked closely with Positive Action for Keppoch, a not for profit with a phenomenal success record in helping to build a mountain bike destination.
PRIVATE & PUBLIC TRAILS
Field-led routing and construction for landowners, tourism properties, community organizations and public-sector partners.
A practical trail process
WALK IT. LAY IT OUT. BUILD IT. REFINE IT.
01 UNDERSTAND
Define users, goals, difficulty, destinations, budget and future phases.
02 LAYOUT
Read the land and flag a route around drainage, grades and meaningful control points.
03 CONSTRUCT
Build the tread and features with deliberate shaping, compaction and water management.
04 REFINE
Hand-finish, review flow, restore disturbed areas and prepare for use and maintenance.
